42km to go! |
The epic journey began 6 months ago, when Jess Clark (inspiration) called it and I decided that I wanted to do a marathon before Matt (even though he technically did one as part of his ironman).
Since then I have worn out nearly 2 pairs of runners, learnt to get up in the morning before 7am and got in trouble many times for wearing matts running socks.
Some things I have learnt since doing a marathon:
- Being fit enough to do a marathon feels amazing and does not hurt... doing a marathon HURTS!
- A really good cheer squad makes you feel famous and instead of stopping when it hurts they make you run like a cross country skier
- Gels are disgusting
- Coke has a purpose... after 35km you should have one... or two!
- If you can hit the wall at 35km and keep going to 42km you feel a little bit invincible for a while :)
- Fitness is relative...
- Being lazy never felt so good, as when you deserve it...
