Easter Feaster!

The chocolate has been eaten, the hot cross buns cooked and burnt, and good times rolled! And so goes another Easter.
I don't know about everyone else, but Easter for us is usually spent in a tent in some amazing place in the mountains and this year had to have been one of the best!
This years edition found us and 12 good buddies up in the Victorian High Plains on a 4 day trek full of bad jokes, shit talking, all round good times, and someones forgotten boots!

A Pile of Good Friends
With the gang all gathering high up in the mountainous fog and wind, early thoughts were a little tentative.  The fog blew in and out for most of the day and thankfully the snow didn't think much of our company and disappeared after only 10 minutes.

Day 1 trudging through the fog
Those early worries however soon turned to clearing weather by tent pitching time, and by dinner we could even see the stars!  The smiles soon came out when we discovered campfires each night to keep us warm and keep the ice away for a little longer.  With such clear skies the nights were pretty chilly to say the least with a beautiful layer of frost on everything when we finally braved the world outside our sleeping bags.

Road blocks are no match for Emil and Trace!

After the fog of day one, it was a fantastic feeling to wake up and see a clear and sunny sky on day 2.  It was even better knowing that we didn't have to cross the river like some of the others at camp (and yep, someone dropped their boot!).

Nothing better than a night around the campfire!

Tomo contemplating breakfast... or thinking of a way to get out of doing the dishes?

Day 2 was a day with plenty of up hill, but spirits were high, and with so many people to catch up with the day flew by in a blur of stories, giggling and the occasional curse of the uphill part of mountains!  Breaky at Blairs Hut, lunch at Dibbens hut, and finally dinner at Tawonga Huts.  What a day!

How can there be so much water on top of the mountains?

Frosty mornings!

Day 3 was a pack free day (you could hear the sighs of relief) and we could leave our little tented homes untouched for the day.  A cruisey (supposed to be) day walk up to a couple of nearby peaks.  Again the sun gods were looking down on us and another glorious day presented itself to us which is just as well coz the tracks didn't always make themselves known!  Up to the first peak no problem! peak number 2..... we'll just have to make our own way there....... can't find the track!  We eventually found the track again, but didn't quite make it to peak number 2 (Mt Fainter), but there'll be a next time!

Tawonga Huts

Day 4 didn't really feel like a hike, an hour later we were at the car and it was all over and time to head to the Mt Beauty bakery (can't believe it's taken this long in the post to mention the best sambos in the world!! mmmm, getting hungry thinking about them!)

All up, what a fantastic weekend, I can honestly say it was one of the best trips I've had!  A great route, great weather, great mates, and of course great puns and jokes!! haha at least that's what I remember!
Thanks to everyone for coming along, you better keep Easter free in 2012, coz you know its gunna be on again!
