So another August has rolled around and the world is celebrating another birthday season, or so i like think! The month of August is traditionally celebrated by our family, or at least two people (Dad's also an August boy), even if they won't admit to it, and being on the other side of the world is no reason to change the tradition!
To mark the actual day we decided on heading into Paris to attempt going to the Louvre again (it's closed on Tuesdays so our first attempt didn't quite work). We got there after gathering supplies at the local market to discover possibly the longest queue in the world. The sign that was just ahead said it would be a 2 hour wait... Soph went to investigate and all that she managed to find was a soaking Japanese tourist who had gotten bored and decided to fall into the fountain while getting a picture taken. So we waited. Thankfully 45 minutes later we were in and free to walk our legs off and soak up as much culture as our heads could manage. The Louvre certainly delivered and knock us for 6 leaving us exhausted and fairly braindead (if you've been to the Louvre I'm sure you know what i mean). It really is an amazing place and the amount of artwork is mind boggling. Its also the busiest museum I've ever seen, and most people are rushing to see the Mona Lisa, the most crowded place in all of France I suspect!
Spot the Sophie! |
Its lucky that a lovely young lady happened to deliver some delicious birthday macaroons to bring back some life to our weary bodies, so we arrived home feeling human again. But the day hadn't finished, the next challenge was a birthday cake expertly whipped up by Chef Soph, then broken in half by untrained Matt, oops, stuck to the tin!!!
The best birthday cake I've had all year!! Looks can be deceiving |
So I'm another year older, and i must say, things keep on getting better (except my cake retrieval skills), i was totally amased by all the facebook love that i got, it's gotta be a record i think! So thanks everyone for the thoughts and messages and birthday cakes!!! Keep it up, its only 12 months to the next one!!!
Plenty of laughs around the birthday table! |
