All Aboard the Telebus! mt Twynam 2013

njh

It's spring time again and that can only mean one thing... Another ski trip to Mt Twynam. Whilst the snow this year wasn't quite up to the high standard of last year, there was still plenty to choose from, and the sun did decide to shine for the most part.  Here's a sneak peak...

Easter Epic 2013 edition

Well, no, this year the Easter trip to the mountains wasn't so 'epic', more like meandering really.  With a reduced team of only four (but what a four!) things were certainly more sedate, and with a very 'cruisey' route planned there was plenty of time to munch on Easter Eggs!

Falls Creek lured us back for another dose, but this year in another direction with a chance to drop in on a few new huts to check out the capabilities of their fireplaces!  Here's a glimpse of the action (and a chance for me to get back into this blogging thing, its been a while!)

Back Country Mt Twynam

Although Spring is in the air, the snow has still been calling out with quite a loud voice lately so that it is not easily forgotten.  To say our final farewell for the season we headed to Mt Twynam (Australias third highest mountain) for a week of fresh tracks in the back country... and boy was it a hoot!!

Overland Winter

Its cold, its wet and its the middle of winter what do you do?  While some like to snuggle into sleep-ins, others do a bit of work on the couch wearing in the groove that marks their spot in front of the TV, maybe you're dreaming of warmer days.  But not many people are thinking of seven day treks in Tasmania are they?  But they should!

Mt Bogong Easter Epic

Easter means many things for many people, for us it means getting away to appreciate friends, family and the beautiful places around.  The 'Easter Epic' this year took us to Victoria's highest mountain, Mt Bogong.

Food Food and Mt Buffalo

fffffor crying out loud Matty, get some photos up!
It may seem like old news now, but the annual Warby Wanderers Mt Buffalo  outing was held again on the long weekend.  To use a famous saying, "a picture speaks a thousand words" here's a few pics from the weekend to sum it all up.  In short, food,  swimming, gossiping, more food and some lounging around.

Fowl Weather On The Search For Sunshine!

Team Chook, ready for anything and covered in feathers... or down jackets
According to every book and travel company we read or spoke to clear skies and amazing snow capped mountain views were in order for our latest venture into the high Himalaya, this time on the eastern side of India in beautiful Sikkim.  However someone forgot to tell the weather gods and things didn't go to plan.  But our spirits remained high, and our hopes were pinned on every bit of clearing sky.

"No hurry, no worry, no chicken, no curry"

"I don't ride the camel, because my bottom ran away to Pakistan, so I will search for it all year and maybe next year I will ride the camel".  The answer our very funny guide told us when I asked him why he walked in front of our camel, instead of riding his own. After two days and one night in the desert our bottoms had also run off to Pakistan and we walked like we were cross country skiing (skating!).

Markha Valley

The Markha Valley was the location for our next trek in the Himalaya, and it didn't disappoint!  This one was to be a bit more challenging, both in distance and height, but we were ready.  this time we had 2 maps and a guide book with directions, a big step up from our last jaunt.  However, in typical Indian style, it made no difference what so ever!

Seven words and a few questions

Seven words.  That's all the information we could milk out of the tour agencies about our first high altitude adventure.  They're not so forth coming if you you're not paying for something, but we got our seven words and were ready to take on the 'Baby Trek'!

Easter Feaster!

The chocolate has been eaten, the hot cross buns cooked and burnt, and good times rolled! And so goes another Easter.
I don't know about everyone else, but Easter for us is usually spent in a tent in some amazing place in the mountains and this year had to have been one of the best!
This years edition found us and 12 good buddies up in the Victorian High Plains on a 4 day trek full of bad jokes, shit talking, all round good times, and someones forgotten boots!

The Mount Buffalo Feast!

The Labour Day holiday has rolled around again and it was off on the annual Mt Buffalo Glenrown Gang get together!  The ever reliable weekend was full of food, bush cafes and all round good times!
This years trip featured the youngens taking on dinner responsibilities and a monster pasta feast was promised!  The rest of the weekend involved not much else to be completely honest, everything seemed to revolve around food!!  There were a couple of walks (so we could make room for more food i'm guessing!) around the stunning Mt buffalo just to remind ourselves that we were at one of Australia's most stunning mountain areas!  There was even a cross country run for those energetic enough which saw more than a couple of us with tired legs and an excuse to jump into the freezing cold lake!! brrrr, a quick swim for sure!
Check out the photos below to see more of what we got up to!
Mt Buffalo Chalet, not a bad little mountain shack!
